Human Rights Tulip 2013
In 2013 the Tulip was awarded to the Pakistani organisation Aahung, which actively promotes sexual and reproductive health and rights among young people and adults in Pakistan. It does this in partnership with parents, teachers, doctors and religious scholars, and encourages open discussion on difficult subjects such as the abuse of children and reproductive rights in marriage. Aahung develops interactive educational material on these topics and also uses social media.
Aahung is mainly active in Karachi, a city marked by political, sectarian and terrorist violence. Despite this, the organisation continues to work courageously to uphold reproductive health and rights in Pakistan.
Aahung is using the prize money to produce a three-part TV drama, radio shows, and a campaign of text messages about the rights of women and girls.
